Medical Marketing for CME: How to Build your Email List

Email lists are powerful tools for marketers in the continued medical education (CME) sector. These lists help you engage with your members and those interested in your CME courses and send important communications to the right people. Building your own email list might take a while, but once you have a directory of contacts, you can deliver more targeted marketing messages. Here's how to build a killer email list from scratch.

1. Create a Reason for People to Give You Their Email

People are more likely to leave their email address when they think there's something in it for them. By creating an offer or some type of content that your target audience would find valuable to download, you can collect an email address before they can access. Even items such as your course brochure are great items to collect email addresses.

2. Include Email Opt-Ins on Invoices and Forms

Asking people for an email address on an invoice or form is a great way to grow your mailing list.

People are wary of sharing their personal information and have become less trusting of businesses. In fact, only 43 percent of consumers trust companies to protect their data. You can alleviate these fears by including a brief privacy policy on your forms. Tell people what you plan to do — and what you definitely won't do — with their private information.

3. Ask For Emails on Your Website

Capturing email addresses on your website is one of the best ways to build your mailing list. Prospective attendees or CME participants are likely to hand over their email address because they want to receive information about your CME offerings in their inbox. Some software will even collect email addresses after they enter it on your website, so there's no manual work involved.

Some businesses use pop-ups and slide-ins to capture email addresses online. Or, you might want to include email subscription boxes at the top or bottom of every web page. Alternatively, make email a "required field" when people register their details on your website. Including a sign-up form on your "About Us" page is another way to develop your mailing list.

Eighty-two percent of consumers open emails from companies, and email marketing spend grows 10 percent year-on-year. Without a directory of contacts, however, your email campaigns won't be a success. The three tips on this list will help you build your email list so you can optimize your medical marketing.
